Chapter 6: Polishing Design with Style Sheets

Overview

10-Second Summary

Your Web pages should be looking pretty good by now. You’ve learned how to craft pages, and how to enhance design with themes. You’re probably thinking about ways to make your pages more interactive, or maybe you’re thinking about publishing your pages. Before you do that, you should consider refining your site’s design, using style sheets or at the very least, learn about what style sheets have to offer.

Style sheets allow you to separate page content from page formatting. They provide additional options to you as the designer, and, in some cases, also provide better control over how page elements are used. Several techniques can be used to work with style sheets. Each kind of style sheet has its own benefits. We could fill several chapters discussing the various kinds of style sheets and their uses. However, the goal of this book is to teach you how to use Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 faster and smarter.

So, with this in mind, we’ll focus on working with the kinds of style sheets you’ll most likely want to use, and those that you can use most effectively. The tasks covered include using style sheet definitions, style classes and linked style sheets.
